Gameshark info

There are several different types of gamesharks.

These are common in the USA.

1. Regular gameshark

2. Gameshark Pro

3. Gameshark CDX

In other areas the name may be a little different

1. Action Replay

2. Pro Action replay

3. Action Replay CDX

4. Game Wizard

and many more

Now while the links above tell you a little about each gameshark they don't really tell you which one is better. And I have had no experience with the non USA versions. But I believe the other versions are similar to the USA versions. Here is a little about each USA version.

Regular Gameshark

The regular gameshark is able to put codes in to the game. You can add codes and games to it. It is very good for just adding codes but it is getting out of date. All it will do is put codes into the game, and even then some of the newer games you may have problems even doing that, depending what version you have.  You must have a port on the back of your playstation for this shark to work. You can buy one cheap but save you money up a little longer and buy a gameshark pro.

Gameshark Pro

This gameshark can do a lot. You can load codes onto your game, code search for your own codes, has a memory editor, and has 8 virtual memory card built in. With the memory editor you can actually go into the game and see the hex value digits. Very good for GT1 and GT2, you can make changes on the car thru this feature. The code search will allow you to find new codes. Plus I'm sure you can find something to put on the 8 memory cards. This shark is slowly being discontinued. My recommendation is BUY it if you can find one. You must have a port on the back of your playstation for this shark to work.

Gameshark CDX

This gameshark is also capable of putting codes on your games.  It is similar to the regular gameshark. From what I have heard from others is it takes a little bit to get used to it. But if you do not have a port on the back of your playstation then this is the shark you must buy. There is a upgrade package that is supposed to let you do a lot more like the Gameshark Pro but I have not had any feed back on how good this upgrade is. My recommendation is buy it if you do not have a port on the back of the playstation. Lot of people now using it with great results.

The older playstations have a parallel port in the right rear corner of the playstation. You need to remove a cover to see it. This is where the gameshark plugs in at. Now the newer playstations do not have this port. You must use a newer style gameshark (CDX) to put codes in.
